Sonic the Hedgehog (16-Bit)Edit
The first appearance of Motobugs is in the original 16-Bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog, and their behaviour in most future games can be traced back to this game. Motobugs appear in Green Hill Zone, and move back and forth in the zone. They will attempt to chase Sonic if they see him, but their slow speed and lack of attacks mean that they can only hurt Sonic if he happens to run directly into one. They can be easily destroyed with one Spin Jump or Spin Attack.

Sonic the Hedgehog (8-Bit)Edit
Motobugs have a similar role in this game that they did in the 16-Bit version, but they appear far less frequently in Green Hill Zone than in the 16-Bit version, with a total of only two Motobugs in the first Act. They are additionally smaller than their 16-Bit counterparts, but they otherwise act the same.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode IEdit
Motobugs returned as enemies found in Splash Hill Zone. Despite the description on the game's website, they act as they did in Sonic 1.
The very first Badnik that Sonic ever encountered, this metal beetle returns to try and take down Sonic one last time. Watch out - he will turn around to chase Sonic if he misses.
